Beautiful people» Nigeria@52

I often sit and wonder what happened to Nigeria, why things have turned for †ђξ worse.
†ђξ backwardness of things. Most countries move progressively forward whilst Nigeria is not. Why?
When market women could drop their wares with stones to sell, go home and only return to pick up their money.
Student nurses were paid by †ђξ government and taught properly. Now †hey pay to learn.
Government hospitals were properly equipped and people didn’t have to travel to India for treatment.
Foreigners came to study in Nigerian schools as †ђξ standard was high ranking among †ђξ best.
Roads were good and cars shock absorbers lasted a long time.
People bought new cars and second hand vehicles were rare.
When is was safe for children to play in †ђξ street unattended.
Lagos was one of †ђξ cleanest cities in †ђξ World.
A Dollar was 1:1 with Naira or less.
Politicians considered †ђξ People first.
These same politicians had things working fine when they were younger, why destroy †ђξ good things †ђά̲̣̥† have been built.
Rulers, remembered they were in power to serve.
Tђξ people cared a lot about their Neighbor and not overly selfish.
When parents had time for their children, and children didn’t have to wake at 4am to get to school for 8am.
When children ate proper breakfasts and not fast food.
And †ђξ standard of living was very high.
When there was constant power supply and an announcement was made before power was switched off.
You could store perishable items without fear in †ђξ fridge for long periods.
Coins were respected and valued.
Times when you could buy something of value with .50kbo and get .25kobo change.
Peak milk was less than =N=1.
Children played with sand and built Castles.
When children actually learnt a lot from schools not just about books alone and schools actually existed to Educate and not for making money alone.
When schools believed †ђά̲̣̥† ‘playing’ was part of †ђξ learning process for children, and children’s social studies wasn’t about learning of ‘US’ or ‘UK’.
When children weren’t obsessed with †ђξ internet, Xbox and Ps3 or †ђξ child’s best friend.
And children could still play harmlessly and innocently together.
When children were not vindictive or calculating and friendship meant Love, giving and not selfishness and gain.
When Churches didn’t exist in every nook and cranny and pastors preached without thinking of †ђξ congregations pockets.
When preachers weren’t competing for number of their congregation, latest cars and private jets and some Imams didn’t make moslems look at everyone else as Infidels and preaching ‘Jihad’.
When Boko Haram was unheard of even in your wildest dreams and †ђξ Northern part of Nigeria was a safe and accommodating zone; and you dreamt of ‘tuwo shinkafa’ and ‘Kunu’.
When you weren’t scared of your neighbors gateman saying ‘sanu ku’
Tђξ Police were better Attired, did their job, a little bit respected and and didn’t smell awful.
Police officers or Soldiers didn’t wave guns in your face just to disposess innocent civilians of †ђξ hard earned money( we have never had a proper system in †ђά̲̣̥† regard) there is a major need for restructuring and proper training)

So its Nigeria @52
What has gotten better? Or Nigeria is much WORSE? †ђξ latter seems to me to be †ђξ right option.
†ђξ change from military to democracy rule. (I still feel we were better under the Military in many respects)
Ok maybe, †ђξ GSM instead of going to your neighbor to borrow their land phone.
Well, In 10 people there would be 1Blackberry or Android phone. (Would still have happened anyway, Naija no dey carry last)
Every household uses a generator (I beta pass my neighbor is something, it brings in electricity)
Communities are their own Local government. (Such a shame to †ђξ government)
Landlords contribute to buy †ђξ area transformer. (NEPA/PHCN shame on you, collecting money when is supposed to be free
)You are forced to drill your own bore hole cos waterworks d☺esn’t get to your end.( Such a disgrace, †ђξ government water d☺esn’t get anywhere. Half of †ђξ pipes have burst on †ђξ roads causing major puddles of water across †ђξ streets)
Communities construct their own gutters and roads. (If †ђξ government w☺n’t do it, at least people must drive cars and walk †ђξ streets)
Roads are so bad, you can’t move from point A to B without your car hitting †ђξ ground. Or having to move at snail speed to reduce †ђξ impact of your car hitting †ђξ ground cos it would hit †ђξ ground anyway.
†ђξ ministries have no maintenance culture and d☺n’t even try to repair roads till its impassable. †ђξ people too pour out their dirt into gutters when rain falls. While †ђξ dirt clogs them up and spills to †ђξ roads afterwards.
From =N=11 in †ђξ early ’90s fuel has gone up to =N=110 and counting(military » democracy)
Let me divert a little,
I drove to †ђξ fuel station yesterday( AP in Akute, Ojodu to be precise), and as usual before independence day(same for †ђξ past few years) there was a queue for fuel. News of impending fuel price increase had gotten to every state. †ђξ NUPENG or whatever other association have gone on strike. Everyone taking †ђξ law into their own hands.
There were People with gallons same as me(you just have to buy some or face †ђξ total darkness), cars and motorcycles were at it. Soundsultan’s song ‘no light’ so describes this so well.

Then getting to my turn, †ђξ attendants said each car will pay =N=50 extra over †ђξ =N=110 cost of †ђξ fuel, okada or motorcycle riders =N=30 and people with gallons =N=100. I was shocked, †ђξ meter still read †ђξ old price of =N=97 per litre. H☺w on earth would they say such a thing. Like †ђξ suffering that individual persons were going through in †ђξ country wasn’t enough. To make matters worse, people were begging them consider †ђξ amount, Gosh at this point I was about to slap someone, why give them so much control and power to misbehave when if they were all in unison †ђξ attendants would have no choice. I guess they wanted us to contribute to their families Independence say celebration or say to buy chicken for them selves. Mchew at †ђξ expence of everyone else.
They were of †ђξ opinion †ђά̲̣̥† anyone not comfortable should leave †ђξ place.
I spoke my mind and let them know †ђά̲̣̥† its at †ђξ grass root levels such as theirs †ђά̲̣̥† make this country what it is. There is so much blame on †ђξ government, but let me ask you. What would people like †ђά̲̣̥† do if they had more power in their hands??
†ђά̲̣̥† is †ђξ behavior of †ђξ average person in Nigeria(not everyone. SELFISHNESS!!). Even a security man wants to show he has power before allowing you through †ђξ doors.
Ok d☺n’t ask me what happened afterwards.

Have a restful independence day Nigerians and think about ♓☺w to better †ђξ situation of things.
Thanks for reading. 😀
